Chapter III

Along the world's longest river, three great kingdoms rose in succession across three thousand years. Kemet — ancient Egypt — built monuments still standing today. When Kemet weakened, Kush to the south conquered it and ruled as the 25th Dynasty. Then Aksum, commanding the Red Sea trade routes, became one of the ancient world's four great powers and the first state to adopt Christianity as its official religion.
