Chapter VI

The Horn juts into the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea, making it one of Africa's oldest crossroads of trade and civilisation. Ethiopia alone was never colonised — its victory at Adwa in 1896 sent a shock through every colonised nation on earth. The Aksumite stelae still stand in Tigray; the Lalibela churches are carved from solid rock.
